Global warming is making it possible for humanity to drill into undersea oil deposits in the thawing Arctic and extract fossil hydrocarbons that had been kept inaccessible for millennia behind barriers of frozen seas and frozen ground. The carbon dioxide gas to be released by the burning of liquid fuels derived from Arctic petroleum will enhance the global warming that makes their mining possible in the first place. This is a positive feedback loop — an amplifying cycle — of negative consequence. The policy of the government of the United States is for immediate fossil hydrocarbon extraction, and consequently for accelerating the positive feedback global warming cycle.

“If you look back, the thing that strikes you, if you’ve got any sensitivity, is that extinction is the most common phenomena,” Richard Leakey told the Associated Press, in New York City on May 27, 2012. “Extinction is always driven by environmental change. Environmental change is always driven by climate change. Man accelerated, if not created, planet change phenomena; I think we have to recognize that the future is by no means a very rosy one.”

At 12:30 PM Central Standard Time on the 22nd of November 1963, three shots rang out in rapid succession over President John Fitzgerald Kennedy’s motorcade gliding along Elm Street through Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas. The first bullet pierced the right side of the back of John Kennedy’s neck with a downward slant, emerging at his throat and then boring diagonally downward through the right side of the torso of John Connally, the Governor of Texas, who was seated in front of Kennedy. The second bullet struck Kennedy in the back of the skull, exploding the right side of his head. The third shot followed closely on the second, shattering against the curb of Elm Street and sending chips of lead and concrete flying so that one scratched the right cheek of James Tague, a spectator, sufficiently to draw flecks of blood. The president’s limousine began accelerating immediately after the first shot, and it raced full speed to Parkland Hospital, arriving at about 12:38 PM. Despite the frantic efforts of the trauma room doctors and surgeons to save John Kennedy’s life, within twenty  minutes that life had gone, and John Kennedy was pronounced dead at 1:00 PM. Lyndon Johnson, now constitutionally the president, delayed a public announcement of the death until 1:33 PM, so he could first leave the hospital and order an immediate defensive operation to protect government leaders including himself should the Kennedy assassination be part of a larger conspiracy that was still unfolding. At 3:01 PM CST, FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover wrote a memo to his assistant directors in which he stated: “I called the attorney general [Robert Kennedy] at his home and told him I thought we had the man who killed the President down in Dallas, at the present time.” That man was Lee Harvey Oswald. Why did he do it?

The Economic Function Of Energy

Consciousness and personality can be seen as individualized expressions of energy coursing through metabolic forms we call human life. Similarly, civilization and culture and economics can be seen as social expressions of energy coursing through the web of interpersonal relationships we call humanity.

The nature of the forms of energy used by a society (a nation, a region, an economic class) are an integral part of its identity. So, to answer “what is the right kind of energy to power society X?” requires first determining what kind of society X is intended to be.

This means that all discussions about “energy policy” are disguised arguments about the structure (or restructuring) of one’s society; politics at its deepest. Nature itself voices an opinion in this argument in the form of climate change, its response to humanity’s century-long ringing endorsement of fossil fuels, expressed as global warming.

There has been a recent outpouring of sanctimonious drivel about abortion, contraception and sexuality, from the politically regressive and fundamentalist religious quarters of the American scene, particularly concentrated around the competition for the Republican Party’s nomination for president of the United States. No satirical comment of mine, nor comical jibe, could ever possibly hope to convey the depth of stupidity, the utter vacuum of intelligence achieved in reality by the actual political and religious personalities preaching their Talibanish American Christian gospel of using government as a tool (dildo?) of patriarchal control over females, fecundity and essentially all traffic passing one way or the other through the vaginas at large in the nation.

One would have thought that the impending world catastrophes of exploding world population and climate change, and the present national crisis of a corrupted economy shattered into a continuing depression for the increasing number of job-seekers and decreasing number of wage earners would be more than enough for politicians in search of higher office to base promissory political platforms on. But, it seems the idiot vote is the most prized demographic, and its pursuit essential. We will have fallen to a deeper level than ever allowed for in Dante’s Inferno if this turns out to be true.

The spirit of the Salem Witch Trials burns in the belly of the Anti-Abortion Crusade. All this set me to wondering what would happen if Christ’s (as opposed to Christian) principles were actually applied to the social situation of abortion in America. The rest follows logically, with agape.
